I created a list of tips for the next group of students to follow when completing their service learning. These tips are just personal advice, based on my own experience with service learning. These tips offer ideas and advice on the best ways to be prepared to begin your service learning. I have completed 3 semesters for service learning and I believe I have have my fair share of mistakes during service learning, to know what is best and what is not.

Recipe Book for Blazer Kitchen (2 hours). I compiled a recipe book with 5 recipes consisting of the following, breakfast, snack, lunch, dinner, dessert. I got most of my recipes from pinterest and use common ingredients given away in the UAB Blazer Kitchen.
I thoroughly enjoy working with fellow classmates and helping the clients coming into the food pantry. I like making people feel comfortable and not judged. I appreciate making a small difference in the community. One challenge I faced while completing my hours was being consistent with the amount of specific food items each person was allowed to have. The experience as a whole made me feel very humbled. The key take away from this day and any day volunteering is to be grateful for the things you have. Do not take things in life for granted because one day you may not have them.
1 Hour Orientation for Service Learning Training.
My experience on this day was exciting because I was able to do multiple tasks and help in more than just one-way. I was able to help AAA by folding and organizing shirts for them. The most challenging part was alphabetizing documents for the Tax Preparation area of United Way, although a simple task it took time and patience. What I took away from this day was knowing I had helped other directors of programs in a small way. By doing time consuming tasks they were able to focus on the community and help those in need. I am very appreciative for having the opportunity to volunteer at United Way.
I did a multitude of tasks at my service learning yesterday. I first made copies and organized. I also put folder/packets together and then created an excel spreadsheet. I also put labels on folders. Overall, I was very productive.
On this particular volunteer day, I completed many tasks. What I liked most was working in several different programs for United Way. I folded pamphlets, get them ready to mail and organize them for "Meals on Wheels". I also put packets together for "SeniorRx". I made phone calls to clients expecting a "SeniorRx" packet to confirm they had received them. The most challenging part was time management and making sure I got all my tasks completed before my shift ended. The key takeaway was how happy all the directors were that I had helped them to complete a tasks. The tasks I completed were small but it was something they had not had time to get to yet.
